Grants for Student Projects in Hellenic Studies
The Center for Hellenic studies is accepting proposals on a rolling basis for student projects related to Hellenic Studies. Funds are meant to support travel, internships, or research related to the student’s program of study. Proposals can fall under any discipline of the natural sciences, social sciences, or arts and humanities.

Grants for Research in Greece
The Center for Hellenic Studies is accepting proposals for small grants related to research in Greece. Funds are meant to support short stays of graduate students or faculty whose research requires travel and residence in Greece, either during the academic year or over the summer. Research can fall under any discipline of the natural sciences, social sciences, or arts and humanities.

Programs in Washington, DC and Cambridge, MA
Outreach Internship in Washington, DC
The Outreach interns assist with coordination for a range of programs and events including online seminar series, fellows’ talks, online visiting artist talks, and Reading Greek Tragedy Online. The interns also provide general clerical and administrative assistance.
This position is a part-time, in-person internship, with potential for telework, approximately 8-10 hours per week, $18.00/hour.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students at a Washington, DC area institution with coursework and a strong interest in Classics

Winter Session Student Research Opportunities
Harvard students utilize the Center’s library collection for research in January. The CHS provides housing in shared apartments on the CHS campus for one week, 24-hour access to the library, and lunch on weekdays. Additionally, the CHS reimburses transportation costs up to $500.00.

Digital Humanities Summer Internship
Summer 2023: The Center is redesigning this program.
Interns work at the CHS in Washington, DC on the Free First Thousand Years of Greek, a self-standing subset of the Open Greek and Latin Project. The work involves a range of activities, including scanning texts, verifying and correcting texts, and uploading corrected texts to a GitHub repository. All instruction is provided on site.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students from universities and colleges within the United States with coursework and knowledge of Ancient Greek

Graduate Assistantships
The CHS offers assistantships to current Harvard graduate students who are conducting research in the humanities and social sciences, including, but not limited to area and ethnic studies, anthropology, archaeology, art history, government, history, linguistics, literary criticism, philology, philosophy, political science, or religious studies. Successful candidates will contribute to a CHS project and will be invited to engage with the CHS research community.

Open Greek and Latin Volunteer Program

The Open Greek and Latin Project (OGLP), in collaboration with the Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS), seeks volunteers to help the First Thousand Years of Greek Project reach its goal! There are approximately 8 million words of Greek remaining to be digitized, a large but achievable task given that nearly 70 million words are already digitized and available on the Scaife Viewer.

Programs in Greece
Teaching Internship Program
In this internship, five Harvard undergraduates serve as teaching assistants for the CHS High School Summer Program (HSSP) in Greece. Interns work with the HSSP faculty to plan, coordinate, and teach the 2-week, college-level seminar. The internship has two phases: spring preparation in Cambridge MA, and the seminar itself in July in Nafplion, Greece.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students from Harvard University with coursework in Philosophy and Political Theory
Harvard Summer School Program
This interdisciplinary seminar in comparative cultural studies explores the interaction of people and ideas in the Eastern Mediterranean, from antiquity to the present. The course brings together historical, literary, philosophical, and linguistic approaches that are complemented by close encounters with the material culture of the region.

Museum of Cycladic Art Internship
This 5-week program is meant to familiarize interns with the activities performed in a museum environment, and to provide high-quality professional training. Interns will work in collaboration with curators, museum educators, and communication experts.

B&E Goulandris Foundation Art Internship in Athens
seeks a Harvard Graduate student from the Graduate School of Arts & Science to work as an intern at the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation in Athens, Greece. This program is meant to encourage art education through an interdisciplinary approach and extend the intern’s practical knowledge of museum programming and research.
